Wild Find - Vintage Gem Micromatic Safety Razor

Another vontage safety razor to add to my collection, this vintage Gem Micromatic SE Safety razor is a beauty.

What attracted me to this first off was the shape of the handle, being reminiscent of a 'bullet'. It's contours on the knurling really make this appealing to the eye, and the condition I found mine in was fantastic as well.

Of course, I took it through my rigorous sterilisation method and it came up trumps! A perfectly conditioned razor, no bumps, cracks or scratches. They sure made these to last back in the day, and it is still going strong as well.

I would grade the blade exposure and gap as being a medium, and the shave quality reflects this statement - it is not aggressive, and is a smooth shaver; a very pleasant one at that.

The weight distribution is very balanced between head and handle, and of course, it is quite heft overall, which makes the shave all the more a pleasure when you just let the sheer heft of the razor cut though the whiskers, no force needed.

The TTO (Twist to Open) mechanism is smooth as smooth can be, and opens up the top head cover to reveal the blade. I really like this feature of the handle as well, accompanied with it's shape.

It is all one piece, and prevents the typical 'gunk' build up from shaving soap over the years to store within the handle head plate. The head offers a nice seating post so that the SE blade that you inject sits in nicely, with no play.

Overall, a fantastic safety razor, and one that I will anticipate in it's use for many years - and shaves - to come.
