Lush Five O'Clock Whistle Shaving Smoothie First Shave Review

My partner and I were walking down the lane-way of our local shopping centre, when we came upon a store called "Lush". It is a handmade cosmetics store, with products invented in England, and made in Australia. They specialise in making all sorts of vegan shaving soaps, body and hand soaps and creams. I happen to have found some cool products in their shop, and namely one that I will be reviewing today called a "Shaving Smoothie" - Five O'Clock Whistle.

Why is it called a shaving smoothie? Well upon inspecting the 250g contents, the inner workings of the cream were very soft, to a point where it would take no effort at all in putting your whole finger through the body of the cream.

The consistency is smooth, very smooth, and with little amount (the first portion of your pinky finger), you can apply a generous amount to your face. One tip for the wet-shaving traditionalists and straight razor shavers alike, this "shaving smoothie"does apply onto your face in the look of a milk and does not lather. It is extremely slick, and allows the blade to just glide over seamlessly without drying out at all. I think this is partly due to the ingredients and make up of this product, which were actually quite interesting, as I have never owned something so peculiar (Not to say that this is a bad thing at all).

It contains ingredients like organic jojoba oil, organic extra virgin olive oil, coffee and lavender, glycerine, Almond oil, Murumuru Butter, Fair trade organic Aloe Vera Powder and natural lemon and lime juice. And by goodness, you can really smell that Lime and lemon juice when you first open the tub and the scent just lingers, which for me, is absolutely welcomed in these hot summer months. I really dislike a soap, cream or lather that does not hold a scent for long.

These ingredients really lend themselves to making your skin during the shave, and especially, after the rinse between passes and final rinse, absolutely supple and smooth. I must admit, I did not expect such milky smooth skin in between passes and at the end of my shave. To be honest, I really do think that you could get away with not applying any form of post shave cream or lotion on your face, as the ingredients within this product lend themselves to do everything in the tub.

Application of the product can be applied by hand, but hey, I'm a traditionalist, and I like the application of any form of shaving cream, soap or product by brush. Brushes really work in the soap or cream into your face, at the bottom of whiskers, and allows the face to exfoliate as well. This shaving smoothie was no exception, and I have to tell you, I think the ingredients did the bristles of my brush, wonders!

Overall, I must say that it was a great experience shaving with this product, and I can really see this shaving smoothie taking off with straight razor shavers as it is slick, provides continuous protection to the face, and allows your blade to be extra forgiving. It allows you to see the outline of your bread, if you want to maintain those important beard lines. For me, it was great to use it to completely shave off my 5 O'Clock shadow, effortlessly.

Overall, a fantastic shave!
